2024 Calendar of Events
By Catharine Hadley, Arts and Entertainment Editor, catharinehadley@gmail.com
The theme of this column is "trying new things." I'm happy to be starting this new project of writing the entertainment column for Leisure Living Magazine! I've done all I could to make the entertainment listing complete and varied, so there should be something for everyone. Although I've done my best to make sure all the information is accurate, please go online or call ahead to confirm your plans.
Any suggestions and details of your upcoming events can be sent to me at catharinehadley@gmail.com.
I love the way our part of Ohio celebrates the holidays! Downtown Sandusky has a new event this year. The Sandusky Christmas market opens Friday, Nov. 29, with the Christmas tree lighting at Washington Park. The market opens directly afterward at Schade-Mylander Plaza. Enjoy the food, shopping, live entertainment, and local art through Sunday. The market continues Friday through Sunday the following weekend, and wraps up Dec. 13 and 14. It closes with a celebration and fireworks the evening of Saturday, Dec. 14.
Holiday concerts are part of our communities' traditions. Firelands Symphony Orchestra presents “Home for the Holidays” orchestra and chorale concert featuring vocalist Lynne Winterstellar on Dec. 8 at Sawmill Creek Convention Center. The Sandusky Choral Society performs on Dec. 13 and 14 at Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky. My favorite holiday concert is presented by Musical Arts Series Port Clinton. The Cleveland Buring River Brass Christmas Spectacular “Our Kind of Christmas” is Dec. 22 in the Performing Arts Center of Port Clinton High School.
Small Business Saturday is Saturday, Nov. 30. Every year I encourage readers to make shopping locally a priority. It helps all of us. It keeps our community strong and our local economies healthy. It's a much richer experience than shopping online. We're lucky to have great local businesses!
Please submit suggestions for the Spring edition of Leisure Living Magazine to catharinehadley@gmail.com by February 28.
