Calendar of Events
By Catharine Hadley, Arts and Entertainment Editor, catharinehadley@gmail.com
The theme of this column is "trying new things." I'm happy to be starting this new project of writing the entertainment column for Leisure Living Magazine! I've done all I could to make the entertainment listing complete and varied, so there should be something for everyone. Although I've done my best to make sure all the information is accurate, please go online or call ahead to confirm your plans.
Any suggestions and details of your upcoming events can be sent to me at catharinehadley@gmail.com.
Oh, my goodness, am I ready for spring!
Support the Humane Society
of Ottawa County
Make plans to support the Humane Society of Ottawa County by attending the Spaghetti & Meatball Fundraiser on March 22 at Ciao Bella in Port Clinton. A silent auction will also be held to support the animals.
Erie MetroParks
The ErieMetroParks system provides plenty of ways to learn about and celebrate our area's beauty. Several educational hikes are scheduled: Woodcock Walk, March 18 and March 27, at Wyandot MetroPark; Search for Spring Hike, March 20, at Hoffman Forest MetroPark; the Curious Naturalist guided walk, March 25, at Eagle Point; and the Think Spring Wetland Walk, April 8, at Eagle Point.
Earth Day Extravaganza
Families can enjoy the annual Earth Day Extravaganza scheduled for April 25. The event is free and includes crafts, animals, information booths, retail vendors, food trucks, and an exhibit of the Ohio Wildlife Youth Art Show.
The park system also helps experienced and novice birders prepare for the spring migration through the "Wings Over Lake Erie" information series. A limited number of binoculars are available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the website for information and registration. Remember, the Biggest Week in American Birding is in May.
Save the Date - Firelands Symphony Orchestra Fundraiser
Also in May, the Firelands Symphony Orchestra fundraiser, called "A Star Spangled Evening," is scheduled for the 14th. The event is always a hit, so you might want to purchase tickets early.
To submit an event, email it to catharinehadley@gmail.com by April 9.
